COVID-19 National Emergency is Ending

Be aware of these changes

With the stroke of his pen, President Joe Biden officially signaled the end of the COVID-19 Public Health Emergency as of May 11, 2023. Employees may be hearing a great deal about this through news reports and social media. You may want to share this email with them.

The end of the emergency affects how health insurance will cover COVID-19 related expenses going forward.

Health plans will process COVID-19 charges like any other eligible expenses. This means deductibles, co-payments, and co-insurance will now be calculated into what the insurance company will reimburse for these expenses. Office visits, urgent care, emergency room, hospitalization, and other services will be the same as they were prior to the COVID-19 Public Health Emergency period.

Over the counter (OTC) COVID-19 test kits will be excluded from coverage like any other OTC item.

COVID-19 vaccines and boosters received after May 11, 2023 will continue to be covered at 100% like any other flu vaccines.

HSA plans will apply the deductible to all COVID-19 expenses with the exception of the COVID-19 vaccines and boosters which will continue to be paid at 100% with in-network providers.
