Serving your individual insurance needs

About the Individual Plan:

Individual plans are usually necessary in the event an individual is self-employed or working for an employer that is not required to provide health benefits for one reason or another. If you find yourself in need of finding individual health coverage, we can help.

Navigating medical options can be overwhelming. There is so much to understand before making an informed decision. Understanding the difference of Plus plans vs HSA plans vs Copay plans; deductibles vs maximum out of pocket expenses; in-network vs out-of-network; all the network options; rates and what is available to you can be difficult to learn and navigate.

Open Enrollment

Individual health insurance has a unique open enrollment period. Open enrollment generally runs from November 1-January 15 in the state of Minnesota.
However, to have coverage effective January 1st you must be enrolled with the insurance carrier no later than December 15th. Enrollments that take place December 16-January 15 will have coverage effective February 1.

These deadlines are set each year and are subject to change. There are no exceptions to the deadlines without experiencing a qualifying life event.

Special Enrollment

If you experience a qualifying life event throughout the year, you may qualify for a special enrollment period. Special enrollment periods allow 60 days from the qualifying event date to select and enroll in an individual health plan.

Qualifying life events include but are not limited to birth/adoption, marriage/divorce, or involuntary loss of coverage through an employer (COBRA qualifying).

If you’re not sure if your life event qualifies, feel free to give us a call!

Frequently Asked Questions:

Q.  What is an individual insurance policy going to cost?

Individual insurance policies base cost on age, zip code, and tobacco use status. Costs vary greatly between amount of coverage and networks. Getting a quote from our specialist is as simple as answering a few questions.

Q.  What insurance companies do you work with?

Our office works with the leading local individual insurance companies.

Q.  Do I qualify for a subside for medical insurance premiums or Medical Assistance?

In order to see if you qualify for subsides or MA, please work with MNsure. We currently do not provide subside eligible quotes and do not work with Medical Assistance in any capacity.

Q.  Can you provide me an individual insurance quote with Mayo Clinic in-network?

At this time, there are no insurance companies that provide a network with Mayo Clinic participating as in-network for individual policies. If your current plan offers Mayo Clinic as in-network and you need that coverage, COBRA will be your only option. There is one exception that is solely based on zip code (must live in a Southeast qualifying MN county).
